Ladybird of the Heavens

Once a year on High Summer the Ladybird of the Heavens descend from above to land in the Culminister Wastelands. Like a vessel from the space beyond, her majestic grace penetrates the sky and the troposphere to rest her black body and flap her ruby wings in the wasteland heat. It can be seen from far, of course, when this yet of deep red singles down. It is a spectacle that attracts sentient beings from around the globe.

The Ladybird of the Heavens is returning each High Summer on the exact same time, it has never failed to do so. What it is, however, or why it comes is unknown. Much due to the location of where the Ladybird of the Heavens descends. The Culminister Wastelands is a huge, perhaps gargantuan, piece of land made up of dry sand. It is so dry it does not even classify as a dessert. Because of this the place is never traversed and the life that inhabits the area, if there indeed is any life, is also unknown.

The Ladybird of the Heavens is, so, an unknown yet, or perhaps therefore, spectacular event. The event stretches over three days upon which it ascends to the heavens again, not to be seen for another year.

Phase II

I have been thinking…well it never stops, the thinking, does it?

Since I started working again, as said before, there is little time to do some actual playing. So, to continue this passion I think I will put this project into a second phase.

The rule system for Seventh feels done and I don’t think it need any more tweeks. It fits the playstyle perfectly when playing over google docs. It is a free system where you act instead of asking what the rule is. At any rate the world of seventh can have different rule systems depending on what format it is played.

I play a lot of computer role playing games and when I compare them to the type of role playing done when we play seventh, I see a lot of differences. These differences, I think, is worth noting down and realise that the two requires different rule sets.

So, Phase II, as I elegantly call it, will be a rule set with a computer role playing game in mind.

The idea and wish that I have, and always have had in a way, is to make it complex and extensive, but at all points it needs to follow an underlying logic. If you understand that logic it should no difficulties getting to know the rest.

Now it is written and so the events will unravel.

At the end of the middle

Yesterday, or rather 05.50 this morning, I finished Mass Effect 2 and I fell asleep with a big smile on my face. Today I feel weird. I feel emotionally sensitive and a sadness is all over me. This means, of course, that it was a good game. Good is an understatement, it was an incredible powerful game, I even started over this morning wanting to go through the story one more time.

But it is overwhelming this and now I am at work, starting my shift in three minutes and I need to disconnect my vital parts of my brain and body so I can concentrate on the job

No more time. Tali Zora vas Normandie, I see you soon

Finding time

I would like to know how you other gamers and game creators use your time in the sphere of gaming.

I have just started to work again and I can find no time to work on this project. So I wonder how everyone else who play games that require others to play with, arrange their “free” time in order to work and play with your games?

Please reply in the comments if you read this.

The longest journey

For quite some time now we have been playing an adventure in Houndsend with a character called Uma. I have not posted much of it before, mostly because I thought it contained lots of “spoilers”. But now I read it through and I think that there is a lot in this adventure that can explain some things about the universe itself and if you think the story and adventure is interesting in itself then all the better.

You can read it here

Enjoy

Please forgive me on my late update. I have been following the vice of laziness lately but today it changed upon request.

Nof the lonesome monk has continued his adventure and some quite interesting things has happened. Please read it here and the story continues on page 9.

I hope you can enjoy the reading.

A tribute to our imagination

In Seventh the Mind has a central part. It has not only one part but several parts to play but most importantly it lies at the foundation of Seventh. For it does come from our imagination.

In any case I would like to pay tribute to the mind in this case. Your mind, my mind and our mind. In Seventh the mind is just another dimension, a dimension just like length and width. There has so far only been two players who has experienced a lecture in the game about how this works and I have made a post about how it is possible, a priori, for those dimensions to exist. I am not going to give that in-game lecture here, I will merely touch on it. But enough introduction to what I want to say, please read on.

Focus and start imagine a Dot. It can be of any colour and of any size. Now keep this Dot in your imagination but I also want you to imagine a second Dot, make it the same as the first Dot. Without you knowing it you have now created a dimension and I will come back to the Why of that, hopefully, later. If you now draw a line between the first and the second dot you will have in your imagination created an image of a dimension. It has no thickness and it has no depth, it only has a length.

Is the line in your mind now visible to you? Can you see it in there? If I told you that it is impossible for you to see it would you then believe me and would the fact that you absolutely can see the line in your mind tell you that it is possible? This is where the Mind will show that it is absolutely a fantastic device that breaks the boundaries of reality. Please read on.

The reason why it is impossible for you to see the line that you drew between the two Dots you imagined is because the line has no thickness and it has no depth. Look at the screen in front of you. It has a width, it has a height and it has a deapth. If you start taking away one of these at the time you will end up with just one. So start taking away the deapth of your screen. Would it be possible for you to see it if the screen only had a width and a height? No, it would not because without the depth there is no way there is room for substance. This is the limitation of the Real world. Everything is made of three dimensions and if you take away one of the dimensions, like depth for example, it is not possible for any substance to fit in just two dimensions. If you have followed this far, please read on.

So how is it possible that you are able to imagine just one line, one dimension? Is your mind able to “see” things that are not physically possible to experience? Or is it so that when you imagine something that you, without having to think of it, are always imagining in three dimensions? No matter what the answer is to those questions, it is clear that you are able to imagine it. You are able to imagine the shape of the line that in principle is the same as one dimension, and you are also able to imagine the meaning of this whole concept, and this is something that can not be found through empirical experience, it can only be found in your mind, your imagination.

With all this in mind it becomes quite clear that anything should be possible in our imagination and this is a powerful thing. It is so powerful that we can create alternative worlds within our minds and we can make things happen in that alternative world and it is completely directly unaffected by the real world.

With this I meant to make a tribute to our minds, as they are, and hopefully inspire thinking and imagination and make it a respected and a truly enjoyable place to be in.

The Rulebook is here!

It took some time to get this basic rulebook finished and maybe I should be honest about why it did take so long time. I have lately been busy with playing the all time classic Diablo 2 computer role playing game. The ladder season had just reset so I created a Hard Core character. I got her up to level 88 and got a quite good place in the ranking but she met her nemesis Nilathak and died. Now there is no more to playing Diablo 2 so I got back to working on Seventh again.

This Rulebook discusses a little bit about what the world is about and is aimed more at the fundamentals of the world rather than the particulars of the world. I hope it can be of some use to anyone reading it and if there are any questions regarding the content of the rulebook please file a comment.

You can download it here in PDF format: Seventh Rulebook

Nof, the character in my last post, has continued his adventure in the underground caves. The brutal and bloody fighting continues and at moments it gets uglier than earlier. He discovers a somewhat depraved society in the tunnels and he acts through his instincts and challenges the animals inhabiting this area.

Please have a read how the adventure continues here. The story continues on page 4, if you read the last pdf.
